Economics Study Program, Faculty of Economics, Islamic University of Indonesia (UII) held a discussion on whether persons with disabilities to enter FE UII will be held on Friday, July 13, 2018. This activity was held at the Building Dean Meeting Room Prof. Ace Partadiredja FE UII which began at 12:30 until 15:30 and was attended by the Deputy Dean and lecturers of the Faculty of Economics, UII.
The discussion program began with remarks by Arif Rahman, S.E., M.Com., Ph.D as Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Economics, UII. The discussion presented two speakers, the first session by Suryatingsih Budi Lestari., SH who served as Director of the CIQAL NGO (Center for Improving Qualified Activities in Life of People with Disabilities) on the topic of Problems for Persons with Disabilities in Higher Education and Solutions. As well as the second speaker Kariyam., S.Si., M.Si as the Head of BPM UII on the topic of Mercy Of God Implementation for Students with Disabilities.
This event is very important and necessary to revise the policies of the Faculty of Economics UII in the future and specifically for education for students with special needs. In this event, persons with disabilities have the same rights as non-disabled people and the community must be able to adapt to their environment and also persons with disabilities can participate in community activities. In the first session filled by Suryatingsih Budi Lestari., SH was an alumni of the Faculty of Law of the Islamic University of Indonesia in 1985, he said that the obstacle that people with disabilities face when entering the outside community is the lack of understanding of people with disabilities. He hopes that the facilities in public places will be adjusted to people with disabilities to make it easier for people with disabilities. He explained that the aspects that must be considered for persons with disabilities include how to fulfill the rights of persons with disabilities, provide and make a sensitive and flexible environment that can make persons with disabilities adapt to the outside community and change the negative stigma towards persons with disabilities.
Discrimination that occurs in tertiary institutions with a lack of sufficient information about knowledge of issues of persons with disabilities makes disabled people unable to access the right to education in higher education as well as the condition that students do not have disabilities, the absence of facilities and infrastructures for persons with disabilities, and not the existence of written regulations for the protection of persons with disabilities. This makes people with disabilities unproductive and cannot take their existing educational rights. There is a segregative education model that separates persons with disabilities from non-disabled people. Therefore, the model of inclusive education is carried out through inclusive schools, Inclusive PTs which place persons with disabilities and non-disabled people in the same place not discriminating.
The second session was filled by Kariyam. S.Si., M.Si as the Head of BPM UII on the topic of Mercy Of God Implementation for Students with Disabilities. Indonesian Islamic University has made facility policy and implementation for persons with disabilities. The Faculty of Economics of the Islamic University of Indonesia has facilitated facilities and infrastructure for students with disabilities.
Students with disabilities can compete and participate with non-disability students in the world of higher education.
After the discussion was over, the moderator gave the opportunity to audiance to submit responses and questions related to the discussion presentation. Followed by the submission of development assistance from the Faculty of Economics, University of Islamic Indonesia to CIQAL (Center for Improving Qualified Activities in Life of People with Disabilities) and then giving a memento to the speaker.
